The SSPEED Center Summer Report: A Focus on Nature-Based Solutions

The SSPEED Center's work started in 2009 with evaluating and developing a surge protection system for the Galveston Bay area following Hurricane Ike. Later, the Center expanded its efforts to studying riverine flooding issues, including creating flood early warning systems.

Fifteen years later, that modest start has grown into a portfolio spanning coastal protection, riverine flood analyses, nature-based conservation, mixed structural and ecological engineering, and flood warning systems. Learn more in the SSPEED Center Mid 2026 Report
